You know her as the guitarist and singer who entertains during events at Styring Vineyards. But Gillian Styring, our daughter, is more than a musician – she is also an artist and an aspiring surgeon. Gillian has combined her talents and interests to create a one-woman exhibit held one night only at Blue Sky Gallery in Portland.
Bullet Hits the Bone includes a portfolio of images painted by Gillian, capturing the destructive impact bullets have on the body, and how humans heal from gun violence. Gillian will perform cover songs about gun violence alongside her paintings.
“As an aspiring surgeon, when I see reports of gun violence, I imagine the journey of the individual bullets,” explained Gillian. “I think about the impact bullets have on the body and how I can be engaged to heal. In all its beautiful, divine complexity, the human body’s biggest threat is the actions of its own appendage, the finger on the trigger. It is my hope that people walk away with a vivid impression of when the bullet hits bone, and help me imagine my future as a healer.”
Please join us for this special event hosted by Styring Vineyards. Complimentary wine and appetizers will be provided.
